An engine usually gives notice before it strands you. If any of these sound familiar, get it looked at while it is still a diagnosis rather than a tow.
Steady means a fault is stored and worth reading soon. Get it scanned before the condition that caused it does more damage.
A flashing light means a misfire severe enough to damage the catalytic converter. Stop driving it and call — this one is genuinely urgent.
Ignition, fuel delivery, or an air leak somewhere it should not be. All three feel similar from the driver's seat and are told apart on the bench.
Long cranks before it catches point at fuel pressure, a sensor giving bad data, or ignition. Worth catching before it stops catching at all.
A sensor reading slightly wrong will not always light the dash, but the engine management compensates and you pay for it at the pump.
Ticking, knocking, a sweet smell or visible smoke are all worth a look the same week rather than the same season.
What the diagnosis covers
Diagnosis is a process, not a code read. We start with what the car is actually doing, pull stored and live data, and test the circuit rather than assuming the cheapest part on it is the culprit.
No parts-cannon repairs
Replacing parts one at a time until the light goes out is a way of billing you for the diagnosis. We would rather spend the time up front, find the actual fault, and quote you a repair that fixes it once.

Diagnosis takes time and equipment, so it is quoted like any other work. Call the shop and we will tell you what it costs before you bring the car in.
